On My Last Breath

wire, printed photographs (2023)

I’ve been thinking about two things: mobiles for babies and how they’re mesmerized by them, and the saying “my life flashed before my eyes”. This is my version of a mobile, but represented for individuals nearing towards the end of their life cycle. When babies are lying down in their cribs and staring at their mobiles, they’re probably not thinking much. But what would you be thinking about when you’re lying down in a hospital bed, staring at the ceiling, knowing you don’t have much time left in your life? It’s a bit morbid, but On My Last Breath, a mobile made out of wire structure with hanging photographs, makes you think about all the small little everyday moments you might miss. Pulled from my personal photography archive, my memories that really matter to me are the quiet, beautiful ones - the way the water droplets shine on a leaf after a rainy day, how my brother seems to match with the red couch, and a precious moment shared between my parents playing a board game. They remind me there is so much more to life than achievements, work, and other superficial things that pull you away from the present and the beauty right in front of you.

In my every breath, up until the last one, this is what I cherish.
